George Foreman GRB72P G Broil Grill, Platinum Review

Love this appliance, the latest in a long line of Foreman Grills I've owned.Especially like the large surface area and double-hinged lid for thick steaks and chops.

Slightly annoying is the fact that meat often sticks to the top surface when opening, and the teflon doesn't just wipe clean...usually takes come elbow grease and a good scrubber!

Still one of the easiest, cleanest, and healthiest ways to prepare food.

George Foreman GR35 Family Size Grill Review

I own many of these products and they are great.I was dissapointed, the first one had paint chips and I ordered a new one, then the second one did as well and I just decided to keep it.Other than that, this is an excellent product.

One word of advice, use a soft cloth to clean and do it when it is hot. I had to replace two of these because I used a plastic scrubby thing and the non-stick surface began to bubble and peel.

Villaware V2160 UNO ProPress Panini Grill Review

Villaware V2160 UNO ProPress Panini Grill

I had lusted after this little baby for some time and finally bought it when I found a great deal on it.It makes the most amazing sandwiches, which you can custom-tailor to your tastes.I also used it for a rolled flank steak, stuffed with mushrooms and cut into thick slices. Each slice cooked perfectly at medium heat, although like all steaks, it requires a watchful eye to prevent overcooking.
My experience with vegetables was similarly good.Peppers, onions, eggplant slices all cook in minutes with good result.I have not tried chicken breasts, but from reading the other reviews, imagine that the results will be similar.
One negative: fish can be a tricky business on this grill.I cooked an ahi steak for only a few minutes and it was overdone.I bought a stovetop grill pan specifically for fish after that (well, I confess I do throw a little bacon on it too from time to time).
I am quite satisfied with this panini grill, and love my homemade paninis.I found that a sliced kaiser or hoagie roll works well, as well as thickly sliced Italian or sourdough bread. My favorite sandwich?: thickly sliced bread, olive tapenade, roasted red pepper slices and sliced fontina.Who said heaven isn't right here?

George Foreman GR1212 Jumbo-Size Electric Nonstick Contact Grill Review

We bought this grill to replace our old GF grill that was about 10 years old.We use this several times a week, and I really miss the old grill.
This does cook meat really quickly, but it lacks a timer and a temperature option that our old GF grill did have.It will burn meat very quickly and puts out a lot of smoke b/c it cooks too fast. This is the only jumbo size, so I guess it will have to do for now.If a timer and temp option were on here, it would make a big difference.

Sporting a sleek, contemporary design in durable plastic housing, this electric grill features 144 square inches of cooking surface for grilling summer vegetables, burgers, and more, plus a floating hinge to accommodate thicker sandwiches or steaks. The appliance's appeal lies in its simplicity and countertop convenience--not to mention its fat-fighting ability. Its design channels fat away from food and into a large drip tray. Even more, a double nonstick coating protects the top and bottom grill plates and allows for low-fat cooking while also ensuring effortless food release. The unit's integrated stay-cool plastic handle makes it easy to raise and lower the lid, and a spatula comes included for transferring food from the grill to a plate. To clean, simply wipe the outside of the appliance with a damp cloth and put the removable plates in the dishwasher. The grill measures approximately 21 by 15 by 7 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Sunbeam Rocket Grill Review

The rocket grill is the best kitchen appliance I've ever purchased! It cooks meats perfectly, and there is absolutely no clean up.Steak that isn't frozen cooks in 4-5 minutes with beautiful grill marks, and the meat is juicy and delicious.I haven't cooked frozen meat yet, but I've been told it does great with that as well.I have no idea what the person who gave this one star is talking about.Maybe they have this machine confused with something else, because the Rocket Grill is fantastic.

Krups FDE312-75 Universal Grill and Panini Maker Review

Krups FDE312-75 Universal Grill and Panini Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, this product makes great panini! You can use it to make just about any sandwich very special. If you use really fresh ingredients, the results are as good as at any market in Italy (that is where I got hooked on these). It not only makes Panini, but can be used to grill chicken, hamburgers, sausage, etc, and then throw in the buns before assembling for a gourmet treat.

I got mine as a Christmas gift and used it at least weekly for about 6 months till I moved, and had to pack it for a while. When I got it out of storage (January the next year) it worked for only 4 times, then just stopped. It wouldn't heat; lights wouldn't come on, nothing worked!

I called the local Krups repair site, and they told me if it was over 1 year old, throw it away and buy another.I was royally upset!Appliances that cost over $100 should not fail in 6 months of use!In the old days, a repair shop could fix anything, and they would never tell you to throw it away.

Well, I went to Amazon and read the many similar stories of short life, and sudden failure and realized I was out of luck. After the one year warranty expires, the repair places (who normally would just get a new warranty replacement from Krups and have it sent to you) won't touch it.

Having nothing to lose, I removed the single Phillips screw in the center of the underside of the unit and opened up the unit. The griddle surface separates from the stainless base once this screw is removed. In here I saw a device which looks like a resistor held in place by two small clamps inside a clear plastic tube.I plugged the unit in and tested the voltage across the terminals of this device, and it read 125V.I knew immediately that this was the problem, as it was preventing the entire unit from getting voltage.I disassembled the clamps and slid the tube off, then cut the part off of the two wires.

Looking on the web, I found out the part is a simple and very common "heat fuse", intended to break the circuit if the thermostat (located in the top half) failed and the unit started to melt down or overheat.

This device does not reset once the unit cools, but sacrifices itself. When it exceeds 240 degrees centigrade, it disconnects power to the unit permanently and must be replaced. This is the reason so many people have had failures.

Either the unit runs hotter than the designers anticipated (most likely), the current is too high (doubtful as the unit draws 1500 Watts, 750W per side and the device is rated for 15 Amps at 120 Volts.1500W only draws 12.5 Amps, so that is well below the 15 Amp capacity of the component), or it was a faulty component.Considering that these components are used in a huge number of heating appliances, it is most likely that the designed temperature for this component is too high. Here is an excerpt from the manufacturers web site:

"The temperatures experienced during normal operation, including expected temperature overshoots, will determine the life expectancy of the TCO. Nuisance trips can result if the thermal cutoff rating is too close to the temperatures experienced during normal operation (this is probably what happens!). Continuous temperatures above 200

Hamilton Beach Grill with Probe Review

Due to the fact that my apartment complex has gone to a prohibition on propane gas grills, I found myself in the market for an electric grill alternative.Like most of you, I electronically window shopped for quite a while comparing most of the major manufacturers of contact grills and Panini presses. It seemed that this has become a large market providing considerable choice to the consumer in this field.

All of these products seem to be a not too distant relative of the humble waffle iron. One of the oldest electrical appliances in manufacture, next to the slow cooker and electric counter top roaster oven, all which date back to the 1930s.I needed to stay below or at the $100 price point, so the very high-end units were out of reach. It was worthwhile looking at these higher priced grills in order to become familiar with the best features. Finally, I settled on this excellent indoor grill by Hamilton beach, with its unique temperature probe. The probe is no small innovation for a contact grill, because of the fast cooking time on most contact grills the difference between medium rare and well done is easily overshot and consequently missed by the most attentive of cooks. This feature makes cooking to perfection very easy.

So far, I've enjoyed great success with this not too big, not too small, indoor contact grill.I was able to prepare at one time a dozen mini-burgers known as sliders, on another night 4 large thick lamb chops and for another meal a tri-tip.This handy little grill performed beautifully, it also makes great bacon!

Cleanup is very easy, I've noted that many people with many grills have quite a bit of trouble cleaning their grills.I would like to offer some pointers on this problem.Although it is true most nonstick surfaces are regarded as dishwasher safe, however I would avoid this method as a generality.Nonstick surfaces can be deteriorated by excess use of detergent and harsh cleansers used in dishwashers. In order to preserve the longevity of the nonstick surface use little or no detergent whenever possible and rely on very hot water to do most of the work.A nylon brush is very convenient and safe to use on the surface. Also, rinse the plates very thoroughly because residual detergent can degrade the nonstick finish over time.I have had nonstick cookware that has lasted over 30 years, when treated with this kind of care.I also recommend using a paper towel and a small amount of vegetable oil to be massaged on the nonstick surface in order to maintain what chefs call good seasoning of the surface. This refreshes and protects the smooth surface and adds to its nonstick properties. It seems that some people are a bit over compulsive with their cleaning practices regarding nonstick surfaces. On this particular grill, I found that the narrow edge of an ordinary wooden spoon can easily push burnt on particles into the waiting drip tray. The rest can be handled with a damp paper towel or cloth. How easy is that!?

I have only one small issue with this otherwise marvelous contact grill. It's not a physical problem, but rather the name.Apparently the phrase "set it and forget it" is used in an entire product line by Hamilton beach. It's a very appropriate thing to say in regards to slow cookers and roasters. It is a very poor thing to suggest when dealing with very high temperature cooking with many issues that naturally require constant in-process cooking supervision. Most safety problems in the kitchen arise from inattentive cooking practices.I believe that this product could be renamed the Hamilton beach digital sensor grill and Panini press

In conclusion, I have some suggestions for Hamilton beach regarding future versions of this grill.

1.Consider producing alternative grill plates. In the form of a waffle maker, smooth griddle and a shallow pan that fits the griddle plate and allows the top griddle to become the lid for baking.I would package this separately as a completer kit for the original grill as well as offering it in an all in one boxed set perhaps complete with silicon tip tongs spatula and cleaning products and possibly an apron with Hamilton beach graphics proudly blazed across the apron.Include a well illustrated carefully researched and tested cookbook specifically conceived for this contact grill and Panini press. This would be significant added value to the unit at modest cost to the manufacturer.Perhaps developed by a friendly third party publisher.

2.Consider redesigning the Panini float handle in order to make it a three position grilling system. This is a common popular feature in many competing grills, allowing both cooking surfaces to lie flat or to float above the surface of the food broiler fashion and to control the pressure of the upper grill on the food being grills.

3.Most Panini presses and contact grills have a common technical flaw that has resulted in no small amount of frustration and consumer dissatisfaction in these appliances. This little flaw is in the use of a small safety feature used to control overheating. It is an inexpensive tiny little fuse typically mounted in the rear of the unit. These fuses are often overly sensitive to the predictable heat levels that commonly occur in these grills. When this fuse self sacrifices to protect the grill from overheating the customer is stuck with a significant dilemma.Generally this occurs after the warranty is expired and they have very little recourse. This is a two dollar part that can mean the early demise of an expensive and very useful counter appliance. The natural conclusion is to replace this fuse with a resettable circuit breaker that accomplishes the same purpose but does not require warranty issues or product replacement. For the added cost this would result in considerable savings to the manufacturer in terms of issues they would not have to deal with and not to mention result in much happier customers over time. This is a universal problem throughout this category of appliances and why no one has addressed this issue is a big mystery to me.

This is a very fine example of a modern contact grill and Panini press. It is an excellent build and seems very sturdy, I expect many years of good service from it.I hope this review has been worthwhile.

Happy indoor grilling!
