Factory Reconditioned Cuisinart GR-4 Griddler Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Griddler in February of 2005 and have taken care to ensure it lasts. The Griddler is heavy and sturdily constructed. It heats up quickly, and cleans up even faster. We have used it for panini, grilling meat, and toasting burger buns.The unit can be used either as a panini/grill press with the floating top or opened up to use as a griddle.

The base of the unit heats up and maintains temperature better than the top. This creates uneven toasting of the Panini or other items. It's not so much of a problem using as a griddle, since one side will simply cook faster than the other.

After a year the nonstick surface has started pealing off of the grill plates. I have never used metal on the nonstick surface and have taken great care to preserve the finish. Perhaps it is in the design or a fate of nonstick coated products in general, but the now I will have to take care not to get pieces of the nonstick surface in my food.

The Griddler comes with interchangeable dishwasher safe griddle and grill plates with a lock and release system that is intuitive to use.The plates easily release with the press of a button for cleaning.To place the plates back on the Griddler, one simply rests the plates in the groves located towards the rear or bottom and snaps the front or top into place.The plates don't consistently stay attached in the top section like they once did. It's very annoying trying to reposition a hot plate back into place.

On the surface, the Griddler has the looks and design to be a great product. Cuisinart has some bugs to work out to attain even heating and plates that last. If I were to buy a new panini press, I would not look to Cuisinart again.As a matter of fact, I now enjoy using a Breville 800GRXL Indoor Barbeque and Grill instead.

CHEFMATE Chefmate 2 Slice Sandwich Maker Review

(More customer reviews)My wife and I bought the Chefmate grill from Target for $10.40. First of all, it makes great grilled sandwiches. It takes about five minutes to warm up, then about four minutes or so to make your sandwich. Most of our sandwiches have been grilled nearly to perfection.

Now for the negatives. You have to use fairly small-sized loaf bread to fit on the plates. The correct size bread is easy to find in most supermarkets, so that's not a big problem, but don't expect the Chefmate to work well with big slices of bread. The other negative is that we use the Chefmate mostly for making variations of grilled cheese sandwiches. It melts the cheese just fine, but if any cheese runs out onto the grill (which usually is the case for us), it's a pain to clean afterward. The plate surfaces are nonstick, but you end up using toothpicks to clean out the congealed cheese after the Chefmate cools off. This isn't a huge problem, but it is annoying to know that you're going to spend several minutes cleaning the cheese off. This is the reason that I only gave the Chefmate four stars.

Overall, for about $10, it's a good buy.

07-24-09: Here's an update, Gang.We have two of these now, and they are still going strong.Do not put these in the dishwasher.My son made that mistake, and ruined his little griddle.

04-15-10:Another update.We still use these almost every day.The surfaces are still great.

(More customer reviews)I got these tools for my birthday. The leather case that holds them is really good quality, and keeps the tools firmly in place. When I opened the case, I was amazed at the quality and functionality of the tools. The spatula had serrated edges for slicing meat, and grease channels for diverting unwanted fat and grease. It also had a bottle opener conveniently located on the underside of the handle. It also comes with a great tongs that can also scoop sauces and marinade. It comes with a silicone basting brush that is dishwasher safe. It also includes a fork and slicing knife. Finally, it includes a cleaning brush that is so good, that it cleans the grill just like new. All these tools are durably constructed with stainless steel, and have a soft grip handle which makes it very easy to hold and grip. Cuisinart has really thought through the design of all these tools, and this set allows me to do everything on the grill. I would recommend this for anybody who loves to grill. It was one of the best gifts that I have ever received.

I wanted a grill pan.After doing some research, I decided on this Cuisinart for two reasons:reputation and weight.I was also lucky to find it at a time when special pricing was featured.

The weight issue is important for me as I have lung disease that fatigues me rather quickly.This pan is managable!But of course, the object of buying it was grilling. I have done steaks, chicken, pork and salmon in this pan, and it conducts heat beautifully.The initial sear is exquisite.It is the grill pan for which I was hoping, and I could not be more pleased.
