(More customer reviews)I bought the Griddler in February of 2005 and have taken care to ensure it lasts. The Griddler is heavy and sturdily constructed. It heats up quickly, and cleans up even faster. We have used it for panini, grilling meat, and toasting burger buns.The unit can be used either as a panini/grill press with the floating top or opened up to use as a griddle.

The base of the unit heats up and maintains temperature better than the top. This creates uneven toasting of the Panini or other items. It's not so much of a problem using as a griddle, since one side will simply cook faster than the other.

After a year the nonstick surface has started pealing off of the grill plates. I have never used metal on the nonstick surface and have taken great care to preserve the finish. Perhaps it is in the design or a fate of nonstick coated products in general, but the now I will have to take care not to get pieces of the nonstick surface in my food.

The Griddler comes with interchangeable dishwasher safe griddle and grill plates with a lock and release system that is intuitive to use.The plates easily release with the press of a button for cleaning.To place the plates back on the Griddler, one simply rests the plates in the groves located towards the rear or bottom and snaps the front or top into place.The plates don't consistently stay attached in the top section like they once did. It's very annoying trying to reposition a hot plate back into place.

On the surface, the Griddler has the looks and design to be a great product. Cuisinart has some bugs to work out to attain even heating and plates that last. If I were to buy a new panini press, I would not look to Cuisinart again.As a matter of fact, I now enjoy using a Breville 800GRXL Indoor Barbeque and Grill instead.

West Bend 79012 Proferred Griddle Review

(More customer reviews)This a great griddle! Cooks very evenly with fast heat recovery time. Very nice looking, quite heavy and appears to be well made.My only negative comment is the gap between the griddle and the stainless steel frame. Food particles fall into the gap making it necessary to dislodge them with a thin piece of plastic. I find a plastic straw works quite well. In my opinion, the$20.00-$25.00 you will spend over a Presto or Hamilton Beach product is well worth the extra money.When I purchased the griddle the cost was $65.00 with free shipping. Overstock had the same one for $113.99 !!

While searching fora griddle, I also came across one by Chefscape, it appears to be identical to the West Bend. The Chefscape however sells for almost $200.00 on Amazon. Upon further investigation I found out both West Bend and Chefscape are both owned by Focus Brands. Cannot say for sure they are identical, but they certainly appear quite similar.

(More customer reviews)I returned this griddle to the seller because of a label attached to the electric cord which stated: Warning. The power cord on this product contains lead, a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling. This warning was not written on the packaging or the instruction booklet but only attached to the cord. Fortunately I noted the warning as soon as I unpacked the griddle and quickly repacked it to return to the source of purchased...and of course washed my hands. This item was made in China.

(More customer reviews)This is my first electric grill so I needed more information than this product provides. Under safety precautions, it says to put water in the tray but when you go to read the operating section, it doesn't mention it so you don't know how much water to put in the tray. Plus, there are absolutely no recipes so you can get the hang of your new grill so I had to buy a separate book about it but even it has recipes that are too gourmet for me so although I think it is probably a good product, the documentation is sorely lacking. When I went to their website, it is in another country and it crashed my PC, so that wasn't helpful either. Will probably not buy another product from this company.

Its the perfect size to make pancakes, eggs and bacon! We used it to make grilled cheese, and they came out perfect! This would be great for singles, college students, and anyone who likes great things in small packages!

(More customer reviews)I love making pancakes. In the past I would use two large cast-iron skillets for the task. I found myself constantly adjusting my burner temperature and I would always get a few very dark (or burnt) or a few undercooked pancakes out of each batch. Plus I could only cook two pancakes at a time; one in the center of each skillet (I like making large, perfectly round, 5-6" diameter pancakes.)

After much research, I finally broke down and bought the Presto Tilt'nDrain BigGriddle because I liked the enormous cooking area it offered. And I liked the fact that is was made of heavy cast aluminum and that it sat perfectly level (some griddles have sloped cooking decks to allow grease and juices to run away from the foods... NOT desirable when making pancakes or scrambled eggs.) And I liked how the griddle can be quickly adjusted so that it WILL tilt forward which *does* allow grease to run away when you want it to! (it has a grease channel and catch-tray along the front edge of the unit.)

My first impressions with this unit:

- It's huge! 18.5" x 15" cooking area.
- It heats evenly. My infrared (IR) non-contact thermometer gun showed very little temperature variation across the cooking surface once it was fully heated (I let the thermostat cycle several times -- about 10 minutes -- before I took my readings.) My pancakes verified this finding with each one being equally browned.
- The thermostat is accurate. I set the unit to 350-degrees F., and it heated to 350-degrees F. as verified by my IR thermometer gun.
- The raised lip around the sides and back of the unit is high enough to contain pancake batter and keep it from spilling over and is low enough to be completely unobtrusive.

After un-boxing the unit, I cleaned, plugged, and turned on the unit (set for 350-degrees F.) After a 10 minute warm up, I applied my pancake batter. As noted earlier, in the past I was only able to make two pancakes at a time using two separate skillets. The Presto griddle allowed me to cook 6 (yes, SIX!!) of my large pancakes at the same time. All six pancakes browned evenly with no hot or cold spots seen. Flipping the pancakes was a breeze and I used no oil on the non-stick surface.

I made two batches of pancakes, one batch after the other, and both turned out exactly the same... and that was "perfectly." I made a two batches of pancakes (12 pancakes total) in the same amount of time it took to make 4 in the past. For the first time my whole family ate pancakes together at the same time!!

So, in summary, the Presto Tilt'nDrain BigGriddle is well designed, easy to use, heats accurately and evenly, and has a very large cooking surface. Clean-up was quick and easy. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who needs a large griddle that cooks accurately and evenly.

NOTE: Regarding a few other reviews here, I don't see how anyone can rate this product 2 or 3 stars, faulting the unit because it's too large to store. I mean, come on!! It's a big griddle by DESIGN!! If it's too large for you, then you should have bought a smaller griddle! ;-)
