(More customer reviews)Since I have started using this unit I have cooked my best Thanksgiving turkey, my best Christmas ham and my best New Year's pork roast ever.The only reason it's not 5 star is that I've needed the booklet almost every time I've used it.The controls aren't difficult, but they aren't really intuitive either.I'd go 4-1/2 stars if I had the option.

Loved all the different modes (beef, lamb, chicken, etc.) but after about a year, the display started to go.We could still read the temperature but the incremental bars didn't show and it was difficult to see which mode we were in.We are looking for a new thermometer for the grill.If you buy this, you'll be happy for a while but get ready for dissapointment.

Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Instant Read Thermometer Review

(More customer reviews)I got a couple of these for the cost of S/H with coupons from Raichlen's books, so I cannot complain about the price. But I opened the lid of the smoker to check the temperature, inserted the thermometer, turned to quickly answer a friend's question about the barn and when I turned back to the grill, the plastic on the thermometer had bubbled and melted all over poor Steven's face. I threw the other one out. Not a good buy.
